Can somebody explain to me the applications for a "Shaking" Incubator?

I use mine when growing bacteria. I innoculate the growth media broth with bacteria, and then place it on the shaker incubator for a few days. It needs to be incubated because it grows best at a certain temperature, and it needs to be shaken so that the bacteria is completely dispersed amongst the growth media (so that it uses all of it and doesn't just settle on the bottom). Settling on the bottom would result in lots of "old" growth and much less new cells.
