PRS Stocks For Stoner, FN And HK Rifles
The Magpul PRS is a fully adjustable precision sniper stock for the Stoner series rifles. Made of fiber reinforced polymer, the stock is immensely strong. Machined alumimium adjustment knobs ride on phosphated alloy steel shafts. An inch of LOP adjustment is possible taking the stock to 0.25" below or 0.75" above that the the standard A2 stock. Comb height can be adjusted 0.75" and there is a fore and aft adjustment of cheek weld of 0.65" via allen bolts. A positive locking detent mechanism prevents the 0.026" click adjustments from moving inadvertently. An enhanced strength butt plate withstands impacts and is rated up to 0.50" BMG. A soft rubber butt pad, available in two lengths, prevents slippage on clothing or armor. Sling fitting is via a 1.25" sling loop which can be swapped from side to side as required. A QD swivel mount is included in the middle of the stock and takes most push button swivels - it too can be reversed. The Magpul PRS stock differs from previous versions in having a cover at the bottom that slips off to reveal a Picatinny accessory rail which can be used to attach a monopod or sling swivel. The PRS for the AR-15, M-4 and M-16 rifle is available in black, dark earth, OD green and foliage green. The PRS stock mounts to the rifle receiver extension tube without the A2 spacer - this is not included with the stock. A specific .308 PRS version is made to suit the charging handle clearance of SR-25 and AR-10 rifles. This is currently only available in black. If you want to put an existing AR-15 version on a .308 Magpul will sell you the necessary parts to convert it.
Magpul wanted to extend the benefits of the PRS stock beyond the Stoner system rifles. The Magpul PRS2 is available for FN FAL and HK G3 rifles. The FAL version only fits fixed stock metric rifles and will not fit folding stock paratrooper variants or any of the inch pattern British Commonwealth FALs. No bottom accessory rail is included. As with the PRS the Magpul FAL stock offers the feel of a true target rifle stock in a package which can withstand the rigors of protracted military operations. The Magpul FAL stock has approximately the same LOP as the factory FAL stock which can be extended by 1.25". It can also help cure the nose heaviness of the FAL. Unlike the AR PRS the sling loop is vertical and attached near the butt of the rifle.
The Magpul G3 PRS2 version is very similar to the FAL variant and retains all its features. The stock can improve balance of HK rifles fitted with front mounted accessories or heavy barrels. The HK-91, HK-93, HK-33, PTR-91 and SL-9 rifles are also suitable for this stock. Gunsmithing is required for use with the CETME. The Magpul G3 stock does not work with the HK heavy buffer. The PRS2 also has a lenghtened rubber buttpad available specific to this model.
How do I fix a "stuck" mechanical precision balance beam scale?
I have an old Pelouze metric precision scale (model R-47) that has left & right trays and weights in grains and grams. It used to work perfectly, but it's been sitting in a closet for a few years, and when I took it out to use it the scale seems "stuck". I adjusted the counterpoise nut and even the "sensitizer" disc under the beam, and I can get the scale to balance out at zero (where the 2 red lines in the center of the beam are even), but as soon as I gently tap either the left or right tray, the scale dips and never goes back to zero - it just stops and stays "stuck" and unbalanced. I gently cleaned it, oiled all the moving parts, and jiggled it around, but I can't fix it. It used to work perfectly, and it hasn't been jostled or bumped around. It's just been sitting in a closet for a few years. I even called the Pelouze Scale Company, but their records only go back 5 years and this scale it at least 25 years old. Does anybody know what more I can do to get working properly?
Cleaning is probably the solution. Depending on the type of materials used in the pivots they might be better off without oil (glass or agate for example) but if they are designed to be oiled the the old oil may have become gummy over the years and may need a solvent to remove the deposit. By the way, WD-40 is infamous for eventually becoming gummy, but it is a good solvent, so WD-40 followed by, perhaps, alcohol might do a good job, then if the bearings need oil, a light instrument oil. You might also check to see if anything has become bent and is rubbing anywhere, especially check the damper mechanism if it has one
