Nikon D70 D50
INTRODUCTION
This is how I use and set up a D50.
Want free stay telephone help, 24 hours a day, one year a year? Should you're within the USA, call (800) NIKON-UX! Nikon additionally has some of it's own operator's tutorials here.
I begin off explaining things so simply my mother can perceive, and get on to deciphering every menu item for advanced users on the bottom.
For more examples of why you'd need to change these settings and why, additionally see my Maui Photo Expedition page.
BASICS:
CAMERA
Many of those changes require you to be in be within the P, S, A or M publicity modes. You set that on the highest dial. The lovable preset modes typically lock out some adjustments.
I depart most settings at their defaults and use the Program exposure mode. I by no means use the cute little preset icon modes as a result of I want to set anything special myself.
ISO: I exploit 200. If the light will get dim and my pictures would get blurry from slower shutter speeds I improve the ISO to four hundred, 800 or 1,600. I never trouble with in-between settings like 250 or 640. The D50 seems to be fantastic at ISO 1,600 in case you want it. I'd much moderately have a barely grainy but sharp picture than a much less grainy however blurry one. Not like movie, the D50 appears to be like nice at excessive ISOs, so I use them anytime I would like them.
I would love to make use of ISO AUTO, however often do not as a result of it additionally remains energetic in Handbook publicity mode. This firmware defect defeats the purpose of the guide exposure mode. Utilizing menus to deactivate AUTO ISO for guide publicity mode takes more time than AUTO ISO saves. Rats.
White Balance (WB): I might use AUTO and an 81A glass warming filter on the lens. I choose hotter (oranger) images. I clarify white stability on my White Balance page and explain more about the best way to regulate it on the D50 later.
QUAL: I shoot JPG NORMAL. This is known as NORM and L on the top LCD, which stands for NORMal JPG compression and Massive (3,008 x 2,000) image size.
I've made 12 x 18" prints of the identical shot made in BASIC, NORMAL, FINE and raw. I saw NO difference! Critically, if you happen to noticed these prints you wouldn't be able to kind them out either. I can see solely the slightest variations on my monitor enlarged to 100%, which is analogous to a 20 x 30" print, and my digital LCD monitor has 100% MTF pixel-to-pixel, which prints don't. Don't fret: in case you want house, shoot BASIC and nobody will see the difference. The one method to tell is by trying at the file size.
I'll use BASIC for parties and sports when I'm capturing many hundreds and lots of of images at once. In these circumstances I'm more involved with time wasted for the information to switch, copy and archive. Fundamental seems 99% the same as FINE, even blown up big.
I'll use FINE on uncommon events where I'm shooting just some photos and anticipate to peer at them very closely. In these circumstances the extra dimension isn't significant if I anticipate to be spending quite a lot of time analyzing each image.
I keep away from FINE JPG as a result of NORM offers me the identical results, with half the file size. If I shot FINE I'd run out of room on a card and miss a shot. Missing a shot is a really visible defect, and I see no defects in NORM. Nikon is aware of what they're doing. That is why they call it Normal and that's why I usually use Regular JPG.
OPTIMIZE IMAGE: I want the vivid color I get from Fuji's Velvia 50 movie, so I tweak a D50 to give color as vivid as I can get. To do that go to MENU > Capturing Menu (digicam icon) > Optimize Picture > Customized > (set Saturation to + and Coloration Mode to IIIa) > - - Accomplished > OK. Should you overlook to pick "- - Performed" and hit OK it will not bear in mind these settings! Particulars are on the Capturing Menu page.
For photos of individuals I either set the colours back to regular, or cheat and use the Portrait preset mode on the highest dial.
FOCUS: AF.
METERING: Matrix.
LENS
Many lenses have no switches or settings. In that case, do not worry.
More advanced lenses have focus mode settings, which will likely be both "M/A - A," or "A - M" on older lenses.
On older lenses I leave it at "A," which is Autofocus. "M" is handbook focus. Sometimes you even have to maneuver the swap on the camera, which is a pain.
If the switch says "M/A - A" then I use M/A. This gives autofocus, and if I grab the focus ring it instantly lets me make guide corrections. As soon as I tap the shutter button again I get autofocus. This M/A setting, if the lens has it, supplies each kinds of focus with out ever having to maneuver any switches . It's the best.
Non-G lenses can have an aperture ring the place the lens is hooked up to the camera. Set this this ring to the most important number, usually 22, if not 32 or 16. This number shall be in orange on autofocus lenses. There usually is a lock to keep this ring set there, since if it comes off that setting you'll get an error message from the D50.

Drone Station lets you pilot an AR.Drone with your Mac (Engadget)
Drone Station won't actually have you tilting your MacBook to pilot the
recreational quadrocopter around your hood but, when neither the little,
small, wee smartphone nor the great, huge Surface will do -- a mid-sized
laptop may be just right. The on screen HUD displays all the information
you'll need to accurately fly the AR.Drone and the app is compatible with a
broad array of external controllers, including the Wii Nunchuk and Balance
Board. While you're using a game pad to soar through the sky, your computer
can actually record video from the UAV's on-board cameras, so you can document
your hijinks or perform some reconnaissance on that shady neighbor kid. Hit up
the source link for more info and check out the Mac App Store to download it
now for $10.
